In 2016, less than half ,or 31%, of elected politicians (Governor, Vice Governor, Provincial Board Member, Congressman, Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Councilor) in Cagayan are considered fat dynastic.

The Last clan’s recent prominence in Cagayan’s politican scene started in 2004 with First Last serving as Governor. Since then, several members of the clan have recently occupied various positions such as , and Governor.

According to PSA's most recent data, major improvement in the poverty situation in Cagayan has been observed since 2006.
